Your personal guide to the world of Champagne. 75 prominent brands and growing ouses, the history of the region, production, practical advice and interesting information.

Many books have been written under the influence. We need think no further than Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald or Jack London. This book is the same. Naturally, it was written primarily under the influence of Champagne, but also of other wines – after all, we are not heirs to the Rockefeller empire. And how else could we have written it in order to bring across the joy we find in Champagne and convince you that this wine merits both its unholy price and also your attention?

Why did we write this book?

In our opinion people do not drink enough Champagne. They know little about it and consider it a snobbish affair, like golfing. We want to present a different viewpoint and reveal this wine from a less common, yet all the more interesting, perspective. To show that it is created by normal people. We have chosen and presented 75 wineries we are personally familiar with, whose wines we drink, and which we can confidently recommend you try. And even if you are already quite at home in the world of Champagne, maybe you will find something new when leafing through this book and be able to pull out some neat bubbly trivia when in company.

that champagne should be to wine
what haute couture is to fashion’

Our collaborators

We wanted this book to be fun and appealing. Here is a list of the fantastic collaborators involved in its creation:

Graphic designer

We boldly asked Štěpán Malovec to design the book and prayed he would accept. Štěpán has received a number of prestigious graphic design awards, and used to work at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague with Klára. This meant that he has already known us for some time, and he suspected a refusal was not really on the table. For us, it was a dream come true. We hope you will be as delighted by the results as we are.

e had to photograph 75 bottles for the book. Downloading the photos online or buying them from a photo bank was not an option. Instead, photographer Bohouš Pospíšil had an army of bottles in his studio for several days, stepping around them with unusual grace wearing kid gloves. White ones.

The illustrations in the book were created by Jaroslava Bičovská. She originally became known for her creative work associated primarily with graphic designs for books for the Vyšehrad publishing house, but she is also recognized for her freestyle graphics, drawings and creative painting. Her works are on display in galleries in this country and abroad.

The book was published by Galerie Gema, which publishes absolute gems primarily devoted to the creative arts. Here again, we were in the very best hands of Kamil Bahbouh and Linda Sedláková.

The book was edited by Jana Vápeníková and linguistic finalisation was carried out by the Imprimis studio. They were kind but strict, which means that “disgorgement” appears in the book. Apparently it is linguistically correct...
